The 70th Strategic Recon Wing was assigned to Little Rock AFB in Jacksonville, Arkansas from 1955 to 1963. It's original mission was flying photo recon missions. Later it became a training wing for B-47 crews

    The 70th Organizational Maintenance Squadron was formed from the four maintenance squadrons of the 70th Strategic Recon Wing. These were the 6th, 26th, 61th Strat Recon squadrons and the 70th Air Refueling squadron.

    The RB-47 members of the 70th OMS have had two get togethers recently. The first time at Charlie and Cathy Lyle's place in Eclectic, Alabama in May of 2002. At this reunion 13 members and their wives attended. A great time was had by all. After so many years it was good to see old friends and talk about the good times when we were young. Charlie and Cathy were the perfect host and hostess. A meeting was held, to discuss the future reunions. It was decided, after an invitation by Enrique "Tab" Tabyanan, to join in on the already established 70th ARS reunions. This decision was unanimous with the proviso that we could always go off on our own.

    The second get together was in Oct of 2003 in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Twelve members and their wives attended the eleventh reunion of the 70th Air Refueling Association. There was three functions on the base, the welcome in dinner on Thursday, a picnic on Friday and a banquet Saturday night. Everyone had a chance to drive around the base and see the many changes since the base first opened.

All had a good time and said they would come back in 2005. That will be the base's 50th anniversity and the 50th year since the 70th Strategic Recon Wing was formed.
